Carin Boersma
Personal Profile
Carin has always been deeply fascinated by different cultures and the wisdom they hold. Her journey began in 1996 when she moved to Suriname for three years to live and work locally. This experience marked the starting point of her spiritual path and her enduring interest in non-Western cultures. In Suriname, she discovered the power of local knowledge and wisdom—valuing authentic understanding over spreading abstract theories.
After returning, Carin brought this philosophy into her work as a lecturer in Social Work, pioneering peer-to-peer learning as a powerful method for growth and connection.
Since 2007, Carin has been working passionately with Oxfam Novib on international projects focused on equality, rights, democracy, and creating opportunities for professionals in challenging circumstances. She has organized numerous inspirational learning exchanges for professionals from Global South, fostering mutual understanding and shared learning.
In 2018, Carin guided an inspiration journey in Nepal alongside a group of experts from Pakistan. This experience left a profound impression on her—the rich culture, deep spirituality, the resilience and peace of the Nepali people, and the breathtaking natural beauty.
Today, spirituality plays an essential role in Carin’s life, inspired by Buddhist principles of living from a place of calm and authenticity. She strives to create spaces of belonging and islands of sanity—especially for those facing adversity—where people can simply be and reconnect with their inner strength.
